Posted On Jun 16 By Hertford Castle Places to stay in Hertford

Though we may not be able to put guests up in Hertford Castle there are plenty of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs in and around our historic county town providing accommodation fit for a King (or Queen)! Here are some of our favourites:

Rigsby’s Guest House

St Andrews Street, Hertford – literally just a few minutes’ walk from Hertford Castle this luxury guest house was the winner of Channel 4s “Four in a Bed” programme. Housed in a beautifully appointed 18th century period property the guest house boasts five stunning bedrooms and two additional courtyard rooms.

Hertford House Hotel

Parliament Square, Hertford - situated in the heart of the town centre the hotel is housed in an imposing 19th Century Grade two listed building which was once home to the Hertfordshire Mercury newspaper. The luxury rooms are contemporarily furnished with the larger loftrooms affording wonderful views over the skyline of Hertford. The hotel also features a restaurant and bar and guests are advised that on Friday, Saturday and Bank Holiday Sundays music from the bar may be heard until about 2.30am.

The Salisbury Arms Hotel

Fore Street, Hertford – this traditional hotel, pub and restaurant is steeped in history and is popular with both visitors and locals alike. The 18th century building has 31 comfortable, relaxing rooms and a free car park. As befits a market town centre hostelry guests are guaranteed a traditional, friendly welcome.

Number One Port Hill B&B

Hertford - Featured in a number of leading guide books Number One Port Hill is a luxury B&B just five minutes’ walk from Hertford town centre. The elegant grade two listed Georgian townhouse houses an eclectic mix of original grandeur and modern touches. The three guest rooms are all sumptuously furnished as are the dining and drawing rooms which guests are welcome to enjoy.

Dog and Whistle at The Ram

Fore Street, Hertford - This popular town centre pub – formerly The Ram - has added five brand-new boutique rooms to its offering. The rooms all reflect the pub’s vibe of “casual eclectic cool” with flashes of vintage sitting comfortably alongside contemporary finishes.

Cinnabar Café, Fore Street

Hertford – this town centre bar also has a 14-bedroom boutique hotel attached. All the rooms are individually designed with a mix of hand-picked furniture and fixtures. There are a choice of different rooms from small deluxe to the two feature suites with super king four poster beds and a lounge area.
